The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (Halyomorpha halys) is an invasive pest from East Asia that has become a serious threat to agriculture across North America and Europe. This highly destructive insect feeds on more than 300 species of plants, including orchard crops, small fruits, grapes, field crops, vegetables, and ornamental plants. In addition to causing significant crop damage, Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs are also well known for invading homes and buildings by the thousands during the fall as they search for overwintering sites.

LIFE HISTORY
Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs typically produce two generations per year. Adults overwinter in protected areas such as homes, sheds, and other structures before emerging in early spring to begin mating. Females may lay 400–500 eggs during their lifetime. Nymphs are commonly present throughout the summer as they develop into adults. Feeding continues into early fall before adults seek sheltered locations to overwinter, making late July through late fall the most important period for monitoring.

TRAP TO USE
Alpha Scents recommends using the Teflon-Coated Black Panel Trap, or Clear Sticky Trap with the 2-Component Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Lure. The lure is available in both 30-Day and 12-Week formulations and requires both lure components to be used together for optimal attraction.

For best results, hang traps along the edge of crop fields or away from homes, as placing traps directly within the crop or near buildings may increase insect activity in those areas. Check traps regularly and replace lures according to their recommended field life.

NOTE: Brown Marmorated Stink Bug traps and lures are designed for outdoor monitoring only. They are most effective from late summer through late fall, when adult stink bugs are active. "Put the traps out now".
