How the System Works
The protection process generally follows these stages:
- Attraction (The Lure): Specific lures release synthetic versions of sex pheromones (to attract mates) or aggregation pheromones (to find food or nesting sites). These scents are often stronger than natural pheromones to ensure the bugs choose the trap over a real mate.
- Interception (The Trap): Once the insect follows the scent "plume" to the source, it encounters a physical trap designed for its species. Common designs include:
