Invasive pest of figs in California.
Two part lure: 1. Hexanol lure + 2. Ammonium Sulphate Lure.
Recommended Trap:McPhail Trap (Traps sold separately)
Field Life: Change the lure every 30 Days Application Notes: FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS PRINTED ON LURE LABEL.
DO NOT CUT, PUNCTURE or OPEN the Hexanol lure pouch. DO NOT REMOVE lure from the pouch. HANG IN TRAP AS NECESSARY. Hang the hexane lure with paper clip trough pre-punched hole from lure basket mounted on roof of the trap. Open the Ammonium Lure and dissolve it within 0.5 L of water inside the trap (see reference pictures photo). Hang 1-2 baited traps per hectare, within close proximity of potentially infested host plants. Hang more traps to remove as many adults as possible.
It works. Removed all figs from our tree so they have no where to go to lay eggs. Have caught a lot of BFFs. How long does one last?

Does not work
Purchased the Blackfly lure & trap after 2 weeks no flies in trap. Unfortunately they don't seem to work, no flies caught. I Disolved Ammonium sulfate in water in the trap and kept the hexanol in the plastic packet glued the packet to the inside of the dome.
No instructions were provided on how to set up the trap. Found a video online but wasn't the same trap. Trap also came with 2 slotted plastic basket containers with caps but no instruction on how these are used. There is no opening in the dome for the containers like on other traps.

Total failure
I tried the lures you sent and no insects were caught. Figs is falling immature. What can i do?

Easy and effective against Black Fig Flies
THIS WORKS.
We've been battling Black Fig Fly larva for a few years. We tried putting little organza bags over the figs and placing painter's tape over the "belly buttons" of the emerging fruit: both methods were time-consuming and problematic (often the bag/tape would fall off over time, or the fig would fall off while we were attaching).
This lure & trap was EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE. The first year we used it, we went from 90% fruit loss to 5% fruit loss. This is our second year with this lure and I suspect we'll have even less of a problem with black fig fly larva.
Thanks for making something that works, that is easy to use, and that is targeted it doesn't harm pollinators!
